When an early morning inspection in a large long-term care home revealed a massive water leak from a ruptured sprinkler, Ecclesiastical’s specialist claims and risk teams knew that they had to act fast to coordinate a response and guide our customer through a significant loss that could impact their business and, most importantly, their residents.

When our experts assessed the damage, they found that a sprinkler head had ruptured on the 10th floor, causing water to leak down several floors. Over 18 units were affected, with water spreading through vents, fan coils, corridors, and stairs. The building’s elevator system was also impacted—a critical feature in a multi-storey residence housing elderly residents, some with mobility challenges, who rely on elevators to access their community.
Ecclesiastical’s Response
Water damage is extremely time-sensitive, especially in a facility where mould growth could compromise air quality and further impact residents with pre-existing health issues. Ecclesiastical immediately mobilized our experienced, dedicated contracting teams to work with the property manager of the long-term care home, coordinating the removal of saturated walls and flooring to ensure the building was safe while the final restoration plans were underway.

The Ecclesiastical team conducted multiple on-site visits with all stakeholders, showcasing the success of our collaborative trilateral approach with the customer and broker to effectively respond to and manage claims. We coordinated a seamless response from all parties involved, including the adjuster, contractors, forensic investigators, cost consultants, and the elevator company.
We collaborated with our customer to analyse their building’s sprinkler system, testing and confirming whether there was a widespread issue. Our claims, risk control, and underwriting specialists worked together to inspect the premises, provide guidance on procedures, and assist the property manager in developing an updated plan for emergency water shut-off, regular equipment inspections, and improved maintenance logs and record-keeping.
Exceeding Expectations
Ecclesiastical’s support extended to advising our customer on potentially seeking recovery from the sprinkler system manufacturer for the faulty sprinkler heads.
Our customer shared, “Ecclesisatical is very experienced, follows up in a timely manner, and ensures that any issues are resolved efficiently. Their support made a big difference, and I truly appreciated their professionalism.”
In uncertain times, Ecclesiastical is here for you and your business. Our team of specialists takes a dedicated, personalized approach to guide you through the often complex and confusing claims process, providing the expertise and advice you need to get back to what you do best.
