June 2, 2026 – Toronto, ON: As wildfire seasons across Canada continue to intensify, Ecclesiastical Insurance is encouraging organizations to take proactive steps to help protect their people, property, and operations through the release of its latest Risk Bulletin: Wildfire Guidance.

The bulletin provides practical wildfire prevention and preparedness measures designed specifically for community organizations, including places of worship, charities, educational institutions, and care facilities.

With warmer temperatures, prolonged drought conditions, and increasingly severe wildfire activity becoming more common across the country, the guidance outlines actionable strategies organizations can implement before wildfire season reaches its peak.

“Wildfire preparedness is no longer a seasonal consideration. It’s an essential part of organizational resilience,” said Colin Robertson, Chief Experience Officer. “This bulletin is designed to help organizations better understand wildfire risk and take meaningful preventative measures to help safeguard their communities and operations.”

The bulletin covers key areas including:

  • Creating defensible space around buildings
  • Vegetation and grounds maintenance
  • Fire-resistant building upgrades
  • Emergency preparedness and evacuation planning
  • Communication protocols and business continuity planning
  • Protecting critical records and infrastructure

The guidance also emphasizes the importance of collaboration with local emergency services and participation in community-wide wildfire mitigation initiatives.

According to Natural Resources Canada, the 2023 wildfire season was the most destructive in Canadian history, with more than 16.5 million hectares burned nationwide. Increasingly volatile wildfire conditions continue to reinforce the importance of preparedness and risk mitigation planning.
