We are excited to announce this year’s winners of the Ecclesiastical Insurance Cornerstone Award, which celebrates exemplary projects and places that contribute to Canadian’s quality of life and sense of place and illustrate the viability of heritage buildings and sites for traditional or new uses.
Presented as part of the National Trust for Canada Awards, the honours are presented in two categories:
Transformative Projects
Projects completed between 2013 and 2018 that have creatively renewed or transformed historic places or landscapes for new or traditional uses; and
Resilient Places Historic
Places or landscapes that illustrate extraordinary resilience, significance, and benefit to a community over a sustained period, with a successful track record of 10 years or more.
Nine recipients were selected under the Transformative Projects category:
- Cheltenham Badlands Visitor Infrastructure Project (ON)
- Auberge Chesley’s Inn (ON)
- Cambridge Old Post Office and Idea Exchange (ON)
- Chapleau Hub (ON)
- Kingsbridge Centre Renovation (ON)
- Galpern (Porter) Building (MB)
- Sambro Island Lighthouse (NS)
- Michael’s Cathedral Conservation (ON)
- The Academy (NS)
Two recipients were selected under the Resilient Places category:
- Five Almonte Buildings (ON)
- Sharon Temple National Historic Site and Museum (ON)
