Impact Grant FAQ

The Community Impact Grant is a grant program aimed at providing support to registered Canadian Charities. The grant was established in 2017 and is used to help provide funding to programs focused on supporting our communities.

Ecclesiastical will award the Community Impact Grant to specific programs that make a positive and sustained impact on the community. This year a special focus will be given to charities that are addressing the following key areas:

• Environmental conservation with a human-centric approach.
• Food security, hunger, and poverty related to food access and availability.
• Vulnerable youth and families.

The Community Impact Grant is primarily focused on programs that require funding to get off the ground. A grant may be awarded to programs that are making a substantial change or branching into a new sector.

Yes, the Community Impact Grant program has provided grants to charitable organizations on an annual basis since 2017.

All applications for the Community Impact Grant must be submitted through the online portal which is open to receive applications each summer.

In 2023, the grant application is open from August 14th and closes on September 15th.

Yes! As you work through the application, there is the opportunity to save and resume as required. You can select the "Save and Resume” button included to receive a link back to your application. This will allow you to step away from the application and resume it at a later time.

Successful applicants will be notified in the fall with grants being awarded soon after.

Typically, grants are awarded in person via cheque by a representative of Ecclesiastical. We will review each recipient at the time of the awards being made, and determine whether grants will be awarded in person, or via direct deposit into the charity’s registered Canadian bank account.

Absolutely. If your application is unsuccessful, you may apply again next year. Charities that do receive grants may apply for additional grants, however, applications made within one year of a previous Community Impact Grant being approved or before an existing grant is acquitted is not permitted.

It depends! Grants vary in size and are typically awarded in the amount of $25,000. There will be consideration provided to awarding grants in larger amounts based on program focus and need.

Yes, you will be notified whether your application was not selected.

You must be a current registered charity in Canada as defined by the Canadian Revenue Agency and the project must take place in Canada.

The following exclusions apply:

• Non-registered or de-registered charitable organizations,
• For-profit organizations or ventures,
• Issue advocacy groups, political organizations, labour organizations, or service clubs,
• Grant-making institutions and foundations,
• Educational institutions (primary, secondary, college, university),
• Recreation or sports teams,
• Fundraising event, annual funds, galas, and other special event fundraising activities,
• Single individuals,
• Retrospective or deficit funding/debt retirement,
• Most capital (infrastructure) projects,
• Organizations that discriminate.
• Applications made within one year of a previous grant being approved or before and existing grant is acquitted
