The Ecclesiastical Business Associate Program is designed for recent university graduates whose expressed goals are to build careers in commercial specialty insurance, as well as for young people already in the workforce who are looking for a new career path. The three-year program provides an exciting, challenging and accelerated learning opportunity, unparalleled in the insurance industry.
In-depth and hands-on
The program, which includes mentoring by senior management, takes a hands-on approach to learning and to growing leadership from within. Business associates are offered ample opportunities to work with brokers and customers and participate in important projects.
We believe that good business leaders must champion corporate social responsibility. We place our business associates with local charities so that they gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the organization’s efforts. Associates who complete these assignments have a far greater respect for the work of non-profits and volunteers, and for the importance of giving back — both corporately and personally.
Three learning streams
A rotational component in which associates participate in every aspect of the business — from underwriting and corporate services to risk control and claims services. Each rotation is designed to develop specific technical and leadership skills.
Full sponsorship to the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Program offered by the Insurance Institute of Canada. Leading to an internationally recognized professional designation, CIP requires students to take 10 courses and write a final national exam for each course. By supplementing CIP coursework with practical property and casualty experience, our business associates acquire an in-depth understanding of the insurance industry, as well as Ecclesiastical’s role as a unique commercial specialty insurer in the Canadian market
A “customer development placement” in the community that sees associates spending time with several of our customers, to develop a better understanding of the organizations we serve.
Here’s what previous business associates say about our program
Ecclesiastical’s Business Associate Program introduces participants to all aspects of commercial insurance using a hands-on, rotational format. As a result of this comprehensive and unique approach, my knowledge and appreciation of the industry has developed tremendously. Since I entered the Program, I have spent time in Central Region and National Programs, and have had the opportunity to meet with brokers, attend conferences, and underwrite unique risks. These experiences have allowed me to fine-tune my existing skills and develop new ones. The friendship and “mentorship” of everyone at Ecclesiastical — including all levels of staff, as well as senior management — have been especially gratifying. Their feedback and support are unparalleled, and I learn so much from them every single day.
Ecclesiastical encourages Business Associates to aim high and teaches us how to do it by sharing knowledge and setting the example. While there is much more to learn, I believe that I am well on my way to a promising insurance career. Most importantly, I am honoured to be part of a company with a proud history, solid values and outstanding business practices.
—Nathan Campbell, B.Comm
The first eight months of the Business Associate Program have proven to be a rewarding learning experience every day. I have had the opportunity to develop many skills through the mentorship and guidance of today’s leading industry professionals. I have gained experience in various areas, including underwriting specialty commercial insurance and conducting risk inspections. I have also learned how a tri-lateral approach — an approach that sets Ecclesiastical apart — is key to building valuable working relationships with brokers and clients. The Business Associate Program’s pace and intensity encourage wide-ranging growth in a supportive learning environment. The focus on high ethical standards and a shared culture that values giving back to the community creates a unique professional development opportunity. This comprehensive and exciting program is enabling me to acquire the resources and skills I need to become a future leader in the insurance industry.
